We Went to Canada, eh.

Jasper is now an international traveller. Well, kind of. We went to Canada (you know, the 51st state) but it still counts. We spent several days in Whistler, BC where the 2010 Winter Olympics were held.

During the summer, Whistler Mountain is used as a mountain bike resort with the ski lifts hauling bikers and bikes to the top. So naturally, Rick got a half day ticket to bike on the mountain. Seeing Daddy in full downhill mountain bike gear was pretty cool according to Jasper.

Just great, our son has the need for speed. Every time we passed this snowmobile, he had to try it out.

When they have the mother/son Olympics, we are ready for our bobsled run!

We took the gondola up to the top for some hiking around. It was strange since we'd never been up this far when there was no snow!

It was a misty day on the mountain, but truly beautiful.

All over Whistler are different bear statues, to pay homage to the black bears that live on the mountain. Jasper had fun getting close to each one.

This ski bear wore goggles and a map of the ski trails.

A few years ago the resort built their Peak to Peak gondola which links the top of Whistler Mountain to the top of Blackcomb Mountain. The gondola ride only takes about 15 minutes, but the view from there is something to be seen.

Jasper had no fear of the height.

I tried to capture in a photo the vast and immense size of this gondola system best I could. The red suspended cabins show the start of the gondola path as they make their way down to one of only four supports, near the bottom of the photo. The long verticle line on the far side is the path cut in the trees as it appoaches Blackcomb peak.

Here's a photo of 1 of 2 glass-bottom gondolas. We opted to take the regular kind.

From the look of his hat, we think Jasper's been watching the "boarders" at the skate park too long.

The 2010 Winter Olympic emblem featured inukshuk, which we found at the top of Whistler mountain.

Christy and Jasper built one, too.

On the way back down to the village we saw not 1 or 2, but 6 black bears! These are the best photos.

We brought Jasper's bike with us and he had a blast riding in the bike and skateboard parks. He's gotten so good that on-lookers were surprised to hear he's only two years old.

With Rick's help, Jasper made it across a log bridge.

He deserved a cupcake for all his hard work.

We finished the trip with a hike to this creek with a great wading pool.
