Those Wascally Wabbits!

While doing some yard maintenance, we decided to cut down one of our trees by the shed. As Rick was picking up the branches that had fallen (some were pretty big and heavy) he discovered a nest of five baby bunnies. Talk about lucky rabbits' feet!

To see if the mother was coming to feed them, we put an "X" made out of bright green twine over the nest. In the morning the twine had been moved, but the nest was covered again so we knew she was checking on them.

From looking online, we guess that when we found them they were around a week old. Their ears were down and their noses were rounded.

Just a few days later their noses became more defined and their ears stood up. Jasper loved peeking at them every day and still talks about "our bunnies".

One day when we were spying on them, one took off running and hid behind our BBQ. Rick scooped it up and placed it safely back in its nest. This was the only time we touched them.

The size of their feet and how quickly they moved was amazing after such a short time. About a week later we noticed the mother hadn't come back and the next day the bunnies were gone. What a fun experience we all had.
