- I said to him, "Gee, you're as funny as a sock in the neck. Now, what's your second choice?"
It turns out he just wanted to enjoy the occasion with our friends and their families. Luckily, we recently heard about Happy Trails Adventures in Easton, WA where they will take you on a horse-drawn sleigh ride out to their private sledding hill for a day of family fun. They provide heated warming tents, tables and mitten drying racks, too.
Here's our two-horse open sleigh.
The sleigh was pulled by a couple of magnificent Percheron horses.
"Dashing through the snow..." Jasper sang Jingle Bells a handful of times while on the way to the sledding hill.
The view from the front seat.
Grandmother and Opa enjoying the snowy scenery.
A great family shot of the Eagans ~ Michelle, Maddy and Sean.
Mike and Waylon Cowger ready to hit the powder.
A view from our warming tent. Happy Jack's employees made sure the outdoor fire pit and the in-tent wood stove were constantly stoked.
We did our best to add some birthday decorations.
Christy and Jasper with the birthday Daddy.
Rick and Jasper doing an "inner tube stacker".
Uncle Sean, Maddy and Auntie Shannon ready to race to the bottom. Ready, set, go!
Christy laughing it up on the hill.
The Daddy's ("Very-Soon-To-Be-Forty" Sean and "Just-Turned-Forty" Rick) with the kiddos.
Go, Grandmother, Go!
Rick was Jasper's personal shuttle up the hill all day long. What a Super Daddy!
Auntie Michelle and Maddy, say wheee!
Jasper's favorite was this inner tube that Grandmother brought. He looked like he was riding in a UFO.
"I did it!!"
Richard and Dorie Aho heating up the snow with a little kiss.
We took a break from the sledding to visit the horse corral. The horses are mostly Belgian Draft horses and they are huge! Not to mention they looked magestic walking among the trees and snow.
Hello, Big Fella.
Opa and Grandmother having a great time. Opa fit in perfectly with his hat.
The warming tent was perfect for taking apple cider breaks and enjoying lunch followed by s'mores and birthday cake.
Jasper and Maddy sharing a potato chip.
The birthday boy kickin' back and enjoying the moment.
I think that not only did Jasper and Opa go down the hill more times than anyone, but they had the most fun, too.
We gave the kids (Joey, Jasper and Anna) a break and took them on a sleigh ride around the Happy Trails property.
Gordon the dare devil.
Maddy decided she preferred staying safely at the top of the hill and instead became Jasper's official sled pusher.
