Our Garden Experiment

This summer we decided to try our hand at a small garden. The idea was really prompted when we received three free small tomato seedlings from the local hardware store. I planted them in large pots and they eventually grew into nice size plants producing a lot of fruit.

Unfortunately, this summer has been pretty cool, so we may be making green tomato relish with all of the green tomatoes we still have.

Jasper loves to point out the tomatoes and peppers on the plants.

Jasper and I made a mini greenhouse as a summer project. We used a clear plastic clamshell packaging from a dozen apples, filled it with dirt and placed it in the window. Jasper was very careful when putting the seeds in the dirt and he loved to water it everyday with a spray bottle.

We were surprised when we soon had cilantro, beans, cucumbers, green onions, lettuce, arugula and broccoli sprouting up. Some of it was transplanted into the new garden area that Rick built.

Here's a close up look at some of our hard work that paid off.
