Happy The Horse

On the day Jasper was born, his birthmother gave us a pretty blue box with a few special items that she wanted to give him. One of these was a soft blue horse that makes a neighing sound when squeezed. Since that beautiful day when we brought Jasper home, this horse has sat safely on a shelf in Jasper's room next to Christy's Weezer dog and Rick's Tebby bear.

Lately Jasper has taken an interest in the animals on the shelf, so occasionally we let him play with them. It wasn't long after that he was holding the horse one day and repeatedly said to me "Appy, appy." He has so many new words everyday that it took me a while to figure out what he was telling me, "Oh, are you saying happy?"

He confirmed, "Uh-huh. Horse Happy."

He now calls the horse Happy. I don't think I could have imagined a sweeter name. I like to think that somehow his naming this little blue horse is a cosmic message to his birthmother that she did a pretty good job when she picked us to be Jasper's family and that he's...happy.
